Annual Ground Water Utilization – Industrial (2023)
nnual Ground Water utilization for industrial purposes refers to the volume of Ground Water withdrawn and used by industries on a yearly basis. Ground Water
serves as a vital water source for various industrial activities, including cooling, cleaning, and manufacturing. The quantity of Ground Water utilized by industries can
Avary significantly based on factors such as industry type, location, and the availability of alternative water sources. Certain industries, like power plants, may require
substantial amounts of water for cooling and may possess their own wells or access to surface water sources. Figure 85 illustrates the industrial Ground Water utilization (in
000 cubic meters) in Haryana. To simplify comprehension, industrial Ground Water utilization in Haryana is categorized into eight classes: <500 cubic meters, 500-2000
cubic meters, 2000-5000 cubic meters, 5000-10,000 cubic meters, 10000-20000 cubic meters, 20000-50000 cubic meters, 50000- 100000 cubic meters and >100,000 cubic
meters in Table 64. The majority of the region falls under the 5000-10,000 cubic meters category. Among the districts, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Gurugram, Karnal and
Faridabad exhibit the highest industrial Ground Water utilization (>50,000 cubic meters) compared to other areas. Panipat and Yamunanagar rank second in terms of
industrial Ground Water usage, falling within the range of 20,000 to 50,000 cubic meters. District-wise industrial water utilization in Haryana can be found in Table 65. The
Haryana Water Resources Authority oversees the utilization of groundwater for industrial activities within Haryana. This authority regulates both groundwater and surface
water, with the objective of ensuring responsible and fair water usage. Industries in Haryana depend significantly on groundwater resources. In order to ensure sustainability
of water management practices, the Haryana water resource authority regulates ground water extraction thereby attempting to restrict groundwater over-exploitation.
