Annual Ground Water Utilization – Domestic (2023)

nnual Ground Water utilization for domestic purposes refers to the volume of Ground Water withdrawn and used by
households for various daily activities, including drinking, cooking, bathing, and gardening. However, the excessive
Aexploitation of Ground Water resources for domestic use has resulted in a decline in Ground Water levels in several
regions across the country, particularly in states such as Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu. N
Figure 84 illustrates the Domestic Ground Water utilization in Haryana, measured in cubic meters per person. The data is
                                                                                                                                                   W E
divided into four ranges, as specified in Table 62. Additionally, Table 63 presents the district-wise total and per capita water
utilization in the domestic sector in Haryana, based on the 2011 census data (24.41 m3/person/year). Among the districts,
Hisar, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Rohtak, and Jhajjar, fall within the lowest range of Ground Water utilization (<10 S
m3/person/year). Panchkula, Fatehabad, Faridabad, Jind, Panipat, Sonipat, Rewari, Sirsa and Mewat fall within the range of Scale
10 to 20 m3/person/year. Palwal, Kaithal and parts of Panchkula district uses 20-30 m3/person/year. Gurugram, and Kms
Mahendragarh fall within the range of 30 to 40 m3/person/year. Lastly, Kurukshetra, Ambala, and Yamunanagar fall within the 0 12.5 25 50 75 100
range of ≥50 m3/person/year. Notably, Ambala has the highest per capita water utilization (62.07 m3/person/year), while Hisar
has the lowest (2.10 m3/person/year) (Table 63). For Charkhi Dadri, population data was assumed similar to Bhiwani due to the
lack of specific data. To address the issue of Ground Water utilization, the Haryana government has implemented various
measures of national importance, such as the National Rural Drinking Water Programme and the Atal Bhujal Yojana, aimed at
promoting better Ground Water management and utilization.
