Cropping Pattern within Waterlogged Area (Kharif Season 2023)
aterlogging of agricultural lands occurs when there is an excess of water that results in a lack of oxygen in the root
zone of crops. Crop development, yield, and nutrient uptake are all impacted by insufficient oxygen availability.
WWaterlogging is a serious issue in some parts of Haryana, especially in districts like Hisar, Jhajjar, Charkhi Dadri,
Rohtak, Bhiwani, and Fatehabad inTable 53. The districts have significant agricultural losses due to waterlogging, which also N
affects crop selection. However, farmers in these areas have limited knowledge about suitable crops for waterlogged conditions.
Therefore, it is crucial to map the current crop pattern to make informed decisions based on scientific understanding. W E
Figure 69 illustrates that the central part of Haryana has the highest concentration of waterlogged areas. Paddy is the most
dominant crop in these waterlogged regions because it requires a significant amount of water, which is abundant in these areas. S
Bajra, Cotton, and Sugarcane crops are also grown in waterlogged areas but cover a smaller land area. Scale
