Distribution of Wheat during Rabi Season (2023-2024)

he wheat crop exhibits high adaptability and can be cultivated in both tropical and W E
subtropical zones. It can withstand extreme cold and snowfall, resuming growth
Tonce warm springtime weather sets in. Wheat can be grown from coastal regions
up to elevations of 3,300 meters above sea level. The best wheat crops thrive in regions S
with cool and moist conditions during the growing season, followed by dry and warm Scale

                                                                                                                                          0 12.5 25 50 75 100
of 3.5°C to 35°C, the optimal temperature range for seed germination is 20°C to 25°C.
However, wheat cultivation is not suitable for warm and humid climates.
Considering these factors, it is evident from Graph 44 and Figure 74 that wheat
cultivation is almost uniformly distributed throughout the state of Haryana during the
Rabi season. However, there is slightly lower intensity of wheat cultivation in the south-
western region where other crops are also grown. This is due to the slightly warmer
conditions during the Rabi season, which are more conducive to the growth of other crops
rather than wheat. In Haryana, wheat is the main crop grown for Rabi; it is sown in
October and November and harvested in April and May. As one of the major wheat-
producing states in India, Haryana is well-known. In an effort to boost wheat production,
the state government offers a number of subsidies, such as free fertilizer and seeds.

Analyzing the wheat cultivation pattern is crucial for ensuring food security in a country
like India, where wheat products are staple foods. Haryana, being a major producer of
wheat, contributes significantly to the country's wheat production and export. The
highest acreage of wheat cultivation is observed in Sirsa, while the lowest is in Panchkula
            (Graph 44).
